Brent Steuerwald 30 Years Tenure at Shenendehowa

Brent Steuerwald is currently the head football coach at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park,NY. Steuerwald is a frequent lecturer at coaching clinics and has spoken at every major football clinic in New York State, including the prestigious Binghamton Clinic. He has lectured at the American Football Coaches Association and the National Association of Sports. He has served as a delegate to the Summit on National Standards for Athletic Coaches and has been published in national coaching magazines on five different occasions.

During his tenure at Shenendehowa (over 30 years) Steuerwald has been recognized as Coach of the Year by the local media on 14 different occasions. He has been selected as New York State Football Coach of the Year on five occasions and was one of eight coaches nominated for National Honors in 1988 and 1995. The last nomination culminated in his selection as National Coach of the Year.

Beyond his football coaching experiences, Steurwald initiated and coached three other varsity programs at Shenendehowa; track, wrestling and girls gymnastics. He has served in the past as Section II track chairman for 10 years, president of Section II track officials, Suburban Council Football chairman, a member of the executive committee on New York State Pupil's Benefits Insurance Program and as Section II representative for the Adirondack Board of Basketball Officials. He is Section II Football chairman and has been a member of the State Football Committee for 12 years. For more than 27 years Steuerwald was an active basketball and track official working many sectional and regional contests.

Steuerwald graduated with honors from Notre Dame University where he played freshman football and coached and played interhall football. He received his master's degree with honors from Notre Dame and a second master's degree from St. Bonaventure University. His director's certification is from Ithaca College. He retired as director of athletics and physical education in 1997 after 21 years of service. He is currently serving on an organizing committee sponsored by the National Football Foundation and the National Football League to develop coaching education for football to be presented around the nation.
